The Trump administration is preparing a series of executive actions to address the substantial energy demands of the rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry. The move aims to clear a critical bottleneck in the U.S. tech race against China, where securing enough power has become a major obstacle to AI expansion.

According to sources familiar with the plans, the actions will address two of the biggest hurdles: connecting new power generation to an overwhelmed grid and finding land for sprawling data centers. The administration is considering ways to fast-track grid connections for power projects and may offer federal land managed by the Departments of Defense and Interior for data center construction.

These executive orders are part of a broader strategy. The administration is set to release a comprehensive “AI Action Plan” by July 23 and is considering declaring that date “AI Action Day” to highlight its commitment. President Trump is also scheduled to speak at an AI and energy event in Pennsylvania, signaling the high-level priority of the initiative.

The effort comes as U.S. electricity demand is projected to grow at five times the rate predicted just two years ago, largely driven by the power-hungry AI sector. The administration’s plan aims to remove regulatory barriers, enabling the U.S. to build the energy infrastructure necessary to win the global AI race.
