The centrifuges spin in underground halls buried deep inside Iranian mountains. Nobody knows exactly how many there are today. The inspectors left years ago. The cameras stopped working. Iran learned more enrichment technology than ever before.
Here is what the nuclear program actually is. Iran enriches uranium to different levels. Low enriched uranium around three to five percent runs nuclear power plants. That is what Iran had under the nuclear deal. Medium enriched uranium around twenty percent makes medical isotopes. Iran started making that after America left the deal. High enriched uranium above ninety percent makes bombs. Iran has not gone that high yet. At least nobody knows for sure.
Israel watches this closer than anyone. They see Iran getting closer to weapons capability and they promise never to allow it. Their jets train for long range missions. Their submarines patrol waters near Iran. Their spies steal nuclear documents from Tehran warehouses in the middle of the night.
America watches too but from further away. Different presidents tried different approaches. Obama wanted diplomacy and got the nuclear deal. Trump wanted pressure and left the deal. Biden wanted to revive the deal but could never quite get there. Through all these changes, Iran kept enriching.
The military option sits on the table always. American bunker busters could crack some of those mountain facilities. But not all of them. Iran spread their program across dozens of sites. Some are hardened. Some are secret. Airstrikes might delay the program but would guarantee Iran races for a bomb afterward.
Iran says they do not want the bomb. Their supreme leader issued a religious decree against nuclear weapons. Their diplomats repeat this at every meeting. But trust broke down long ago. America does not believe them. Israel definitely does not believe them.
The nightmare scenario keeps generals awake at night. Iran gets the bomb. Saudi Arabia gets the bomb because Iran has it. Turkey gets the bomb because Saudi has it. The whole region turns into a nuclear powder keg with terrorists and militias everywhere.
That is why the nuclear program matters so much. It is not just about Iran. It is about what happens next.
