United States allies officially rejected President Donald Trump’s direct request to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz. Trump quickly criticized his Western partners, accusing them of showing extreme ingratitude after decades of American military support. The United States and Israel are currently fighting a massive war against Iran that has just entered its 3rd week. This intense conflict essentially shut down the critical Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway that normally handles exactly 20% of the global oil and liquefied natural gas supply.

Major European partners like Germany, Spain, and Italy have made it clear they have absolutely no plans to send their naval ships to reopen the dangerous shipping lane. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz explained his decision in Berlin, noting his country lacks the required legal mandate from the United Nations, the European Union, or NATO. Merz also pointed out that Washington and Israel never consulted Germany before they launched the war. Trump voiced his deep frustration during a Washington press conference. He complained that countries he had protected for many years showed zero enthusiasm for helping the United States when it finally asked for backup.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed it had already prepared detailed operational plans for at least 3 more weeks of continuous bombing. Israeli spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told reporters that his forces still have thousands of targets left to hit across Iran. Israeli fighter jets recently pounded facilities linked to the Iranian space program, destroying a specific research center that helped launch a satellite back in 2024. The military also launched precision air strikes on the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran, claiming they tried their best to avoid harming the political prisoners locked inside.

Iran aggressively fired back at its enemies across the region. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched drones that temporarily shut down the incredibly busy Dubai International Airport. Thick black smoke filled the sky after a drone crashed into a nearby fuel storage facility. Another Iranian strike hit the major port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, forcing workers to completely suspend their oil loading operations. This specific port handles a large volume of crude oil, roughly 1% of global crude oil demand. In addition, Saudi Arabia’s defense systems successfully intercepted 34 incoming drones in just 1 hour.

The violent conflict continues to claim a heavy toll on innocent lives. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that military bombings killed hundreds of civilians, including exactly 200 children. Local news agencies reported that overnight strikes killed 5 people and wounded 7 others in the central Markazi province. Rescue workers in Tehran desperately dug through the rubble of a completely destroyed residential alleyway near Martyrs Square. One 62-year-old local woman named Shahnaz used WhatsApp to describe the terrifying situation. She said Iranians feel entirely isolated without internet access, just days before the March 20 Nowruz New Year celebration. Shahnaz also expressed deep anger toward the Iranian government, noting that state security forces killed her granddaughter during protests earlier this year.

Despite the widespread destruction and daily rocket fire, global financial markets actually found some unexpected relief. Oil prices, which recently spiked well above $100 a barrel, suddenly fell. The stock market rallied after United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke with CNBC reporters. Bessent explained that the United States government decided to allow some Iranian fuel vessels to pass safely through the restricted strait. He also confirmed that several Indian and Chinese oil tankers successfully navigated the dangerous waters, which quickly calmed the nervous energy sector.
