The Kremlin announced on Monday that Russia still wants to keep talking with Ukraine. Even though the war continues, Moscow claims its top priority is finding a diplomatic way to end the violence. This statement comes at a tense time when many observers wonder if a peaceful deal is even possible.

Right now, the peace process looks completely stuck. The main problem centers on the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine. Moscow insists that Kyiv must hand over the parts of this land that Russian forces do not yet control. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has turned down this demand many times, calling it a total deal-breaker for his country.

Over the weekend, reports from Bloomberg News suggested that Russian officials were losing interest in the negotiations. Sources mentioned that Moscow saw no point in meeting if Kyiv refused to give up territory. These reports hinted that the U.S.-led talks might fall apart soon if neither side budged on the land issue.

However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov set the record straight on Monday. He told reporters that Russia still plans to stay at the table. He explained that continuing the dialogue protects Russia’s own interests. According to Peskov, Moscow’s approach has not changed, and they are still looking for a political exit from the conflict.

Peskov emphasized that a diplomatic settlement remains the preferred choice for the Kremlin. He noted that while the fighting remains intense, a signed agreement would be the best way to stop the bloodshed. He made it clear that Russia is not closing the door on communication just yet.

Reporters also asked if recent U.S. military actions in Iran might distract from the peace process in Ukraine. Peskov admitted that Russia still values the mediation efforts coming from Washington. However, he added a note of caution, saying that Moscow only truly trusts its own judgment and will prioritize its own goals.

In the end, Russia intends to follow its own path. While they are willing to listen to international mediators, they will put their own national security first. The world now waits to see if these words lead to a real breakthrough or if the stalemate will simply drag on for months to come.
