U.S. President Donald Trump signed a new national counterterrorism strategy this week. White House counterterrorism director Sebastian Gorka announced the policy to reporters on Wednesday. Gorka stated the president finalized the document on Tuesday. He explained a simple core principle drives the new framework: America serves as the homeland, and leaders must protect it at all costs. The administration wants to overhaul how federal agencies respond to emerging dangers at home and abroad.

The administration places a massive priority on neutralizing threats across the Western Hemisphere. The new policy directs federal law enforcement and military units to incapacitate drug cartel operations completely. Gorka told the press corps that the government will dismantle these criminal networks until they are unable to operate. The administration wants to stop cartels from smuggling illegal drugs, moving violent gang members, and pushing trafficked victims across the United States border. Federal agencies will dedicate thousands of agents to this specific border mission.

This hemispheric crackdown builds on recent aggressive military and law-enforcement actions across South America. Earlier this year, Washington launched a massive counternarcotics campaign that directly tied into the sudden ouster of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. During that specific operation, United States forces destroyed at least 45 boats used for smuggling illicit goods. Officials estimate the broader regional operations have already disrupted nearly $1.5 billion in illegal drug revenue over the past 6 months.

Within the United States’ borders, the counterterrorism strategy places heavy focus on specific domestic factions. Gorka outlined aggressive plans to identify and neutralize violent, secular political organizations. He specifically pointed to groups harboring anti-American, radically pro-gender, or anarchist ideologies. The White House director explicitly named Antifa as a primary target of this new domestic intelligence effort. Federal agencies will now classify these networks under new domestic threat categories.

The push against left-wing political violence follows a major national tragedy from earlier this fall. On September 15, an attacker assassinated prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The killing sent shockwaves through the conservative movement and prompted immediate outrage from political commentators. Immediately after the assassination, White House aides demanded a highly coordinated federal response against unnamed left-wing networks that officials accused of promoting political violence and street riots.

To fight these domestic groups, the administration plans to use every constitutional tool available to federal law enforcement. Agents will actively map out domestic networks, identify individual members, and track any financial or operational ties to international organizations. Gorka said investigators will cripple these groups operationally before their members can maim or kill innocent citizens. Congress recently authorized $250 million to upgrade domestic threat-tracking databases to help achieve this goal.

The domestic focus does not stop at secular or left-wing organizations. During the press briefing, reporters pressed Gorka on whether the strategy addresses violence from other parts of the political spectrum. Gorka confirmed the new national strategy also dedicates significant resources to track and stop right-wing groups that actively foment violence. He emphasized that the federal government will aggressively pursue anyone who uses violence to achieve political goals.

Beyond the Americas and domestic borders, the White House maintains a sharp focus on traditional state-sponsored threats. Top United States counterterrorism officials plan to meet with key international partners this coming Friday. The administration will ask European and Middle Eastern allies to dramatically increase their own financial and military commitments to combat global terror networks.

A major point of discussion for Friday’s international meeting involves the ongoing security threat from Iran. Washington wants to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint that handles massive amounts of commercial shipping. Roughly 25% of the world’s daily oil supply passes through this narrow waterway. The administration views Iranian aggression in the strait as a direct threat to global economic stability and demands a unified international response to deter future attacks.

Finally, the new strategy reinforces America’s long-standing operations against radical Islamic terrorism. Gorka assured reporters that the United States will maintain relentless military pressure on the global jihadi movement. The military and intelligence communities will continue the active targeting and destruction of legacy terrorist organizations like al Qaeda. The Defense Department will maintain continuous drone surveillance to keep these groups from rebuilding their international strike capabilities.
