U.S. President Donald Trump announced he had completely canceled a planned military strike on Iran scheduled for Tuesday. He decided that top leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates had directly asked him to wait. These Middle Eastern allies asked the American president for more time to find a peaceful diplomatic solution. Trump wrote on social media that he agreed to hold off because serious negotiations started happening behind closed doors.

Trump constantly threatens to drop bombs on Iranian targets without ever actually doing it. Right now, government officials in Tehran refuse to confirm whether they have actually resumed talks with American diplomats. Trump warned he remains ready to attack the Islamic Republic if they fail to reach an acceptable deal, though he refused to set a strict deadline. Following his social media post, global oil prices instantly erased most of their daily gains. Treasury yields also dropped, and the stock market recovered some of its early-morning losses.

The president currently finds himself trapped in a very difficult position. Iranian leaders continue to take a very hard line because they simply do not believe the United States will actually attack them again. However, if Trump actually launches the missiles, the war will cause global oil prices to skyrocket immediately. The White House desperately wants to avoid expensive gas prices, so Trump hesitates to pull the trigger.

Just hours before Trump canceled the strike, both nations rejected new peace offers. A senior American official told reporters that Iran sent a new proposal through Pakistani mediators on Sunday. The White House rejected the offer because it showed no real progress. American officials complained that Iran refused to hand over its massive stockpile of highly enriched uranium. The proposal also failed to stop Iran from enriching even more uranium in the future.

At the same time, Iranian leaders made it clear that American demands remain completely unacceptable. The government in Tehran refuses to change its core positions. Iranian officials demand that the United States return 100% of their frozen financial assets immediately. They also demand massive cash compensation to pay for the recent war damages. With crucial oil exports from the Persian Gulf completely cut off, Trump keeps pushing Iran to accept a deal.

While the politicians argue, violence continues across the Middle East. The United Arab Emirates reported a dangerous drone strike near a major nuclear power plant on Monday morning. The country’s defense ministry stated that enemies launched the weapons from the west. Military forces successfully intercepted 2 drones, but a third projectile still hit the area.

The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that workers turned on emergency diesel generators to supply power to Unit 3 of the plant. Officials from Abu Dhabi quickly confirmed the attack caused no radiological leaks and everything remained secure. The attack simply highlighted how fragile the current truce really is.

Just one day earlier, Saudi Arabia dealt with its own aerial threat. Saudi military forces tracked and destroyed exactly 3 hostile drones that flew into their airspace on Sunday. Radar showed these drones crossed the border coming from Iraq. Many dangerous militias backed by Iran currently operate inside Iraqi territory. Investigators still do not know if these drones share a connection with the attack on the nuclear plant. Iran remains totally silent and refuses to comment on any of these drone strikes.

Rumors about oil deals keep swirling around the media. Iran’s Tasnim news agency published a story claiming the United States offered a major compromise. The agency reported that Washington offered to lift all sanctions on Iranian oil sales while the two sides negotiate a final deal. An unnamed American official immediately told reporters this story contains zero truth. Meanwhile, Tasnim claimed Iran rejected the fake offer anyway, stating they will never sacrifice their nuclear program just to stop the war.

High oil prices create huge headaches for the Trump administration. To fight this problem, the Treasury Department took action on Monday. They extended a special sanctions waiver to allow the sale of Russian oil for another 30 days. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained the decision on social media. He stated that the temporary waiver helps vulnerable countries buy Russian oil that is currently trapped on cargo ships at sea.

Trump also looked to China for help with the global oil supply. Last week, the president flew back from a major summit in Beijing. During the flight, Trump told reporters he held a serious conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. They discussed lifting American sanctions on Chinese oil companies that buy crude oil from Iran. Before the current war started, China bought a staggering 90% of all oil exported from Iran.
