The Chinese government on Monday released the highly anticipated fifth volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” in eight new languages. According to an official statement issued in Beijing, the book is now available globally in French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, and traditional Chinese. This major international release aims to help the global community better understand China’s domestic development path, its economic concepts, and its governance model in a rapidly changing world. The publication represents a massive effort by Beijing to share its political philosophy with foreign leaders, business executives, and academics.
The newly published fifth volume contains a comprehensive compilation of exactly 91 spoken and written works by Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. The selected works cover a specific, critical timeframe from May 27, 2022, to December 20, 2024. The compilation includes various reports, speeches, public talks, formal addresses, published articles, and official instructions that highlight his political philosophy. It documents how the central leadership team has taken solid steps toward building a modern socialist country in all respects.
To provide readers with a better visual understanding of China’s leadership, the publisher included exactly 41 photographs taken during this same period. The book’s editorial team divided the 91 written works into 18 different sections organized by topic. Within each section, the articles appear in chronological order, complete with detailed explanatory notes at the end of relevant chapters to help foreign readers understand complex historical and cultural references. This structured design makes the heavy political text much easier for international audiences to read and digest.
The fifth volume serves as an authoritative work that comprehensively reflects the latest developments of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The chapters discuss several key national areas, including China’s economic development, advanced technology, ecological protection, and the government’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign. The book aims to help Communist Party members, government officials, and the general public apply these core concepts to their daily work while informing the international community of China’s latest ideological developments.
This new release builds upon a massive, decade-long global publishing effort. Since the first volume launched back in 2014, the Chinese government has published the series in multiple languages to reach readers around the world. By August 2017, the first volume alone had already sold more than 6.4 million copies in 21 different languages across more than 160 countries. The second volume, published in November 2017, saw its global circulation exceed 13 million copies as international interest in China’s development model surged, representing a multi-million dollar global publishing success.
The book also outlines China’s vision for international relations and global development. Several sections discuss the Belt and Road Initiative, which promotes common development and peaceful cooperation between China and other countries. The texts also detail China’s plans to build a community with a shared future for humanity, offering what Beijing calls “Chinese wisdom” to solve global challenges. This message has gained significant attention among developing nations, especially within the Global South, where countries are actively pursuing their own paths to modernization and look to China’s experience for guidance.
The Foreign Languages Press, the official publisher of the series, is currently promoting the new book at major international book fairs and diplomatic events worldwide. Recent promotional events for the English edition of the fifth volume took place in South Africa, Indonesia, and Malaysia, drawing hundreds of foreign participants, including senior government ministers and academic scholars. By releasing the book in eight more languages, China hopes to continue sharing its governance philosophy with a diverse, global audience of politicians, businesses, and researchers.
