Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a strong message to the world on Thursday. He stated that the absolute top priority right now is getting the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table. The two countries desperately need to find a political solution to their ongoing war. Wang shared these thoughts during a major meeting in Beijing with Antonio Tajani, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The two global leaders spent hours discussing the chaotic situation currently unfolding across the Middle East.
Wang did not hold back his opinions on the conflict. He bluntly told Tajani that the United States and Israel’s war against Iran never should have started in the first place. As the fighting drags on, the massive conflict has already seriously damaged international energy security. Furthermore, the violent clashes completely ruined the safety of commercial navigation through the vital Strait of Hormuz. Because roughly 20 percent of the global oil supply travels through that waterway, the war is currently costing the global economy over $5 million per day due to delayed shipping and soaring insurance premiums.
As a high-ranking member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, Wang emphasized his country’s core values. He explained that China always advocates for solving international disputes through quiet dialogue and careful consultation. The Chinese government strongly opposes the use of brute military force to resolve political disputes. Wang proudly noted that China consistently maintains a highly objective and impartial stance on the global stage. He pointed out that his country actively works to promote peace and end violent conflicts rather than starting new ones.
During the extensive meeting, Wang also threw his full support behind the current mediation efforts led by Pakistan. The Pakistani government recently tried to broker a fragile 14-day ceasefire between the warring nations. Wang confirmed that China is fully prepared to maintain open communication with all parties involved. He promised that Beijing will continue to play a highly constructive role in helping to finalize a permanent peace treaty.
The conversation eventually shifted toward the specific relationship between China and Italy. Wang told Tajani that China is fully willing to work closely with the Italian government. He wants to implement the important common understandings already established between the leaders of both countries. Wang believes they can easily maintain a sound and steady momentum for the long-term development of their bilateral relations. He noted that since the start of 2026, severe geopolitical conflicts have dragged on, and global hotspot issues have escalated dangerously. These endless wars pose grave challenges to the established international order and to basic global security.
Wang highlighted the deep historical connection between the two nations. He reminded Tajani that both China and Italy stand as ancient civilizations that deeply value peace. He views both countries as incredibly important forces in safeguarding global multilateralism. Wang promised that China stands completely ready to enhance its daily communication and strategic coordination with Italy on all major international and multilateral affairs.
Tajani responded with equal respect and enthusiasm. The Italian leader stated that his country places great importance on its strong relationship with China. He also clearly confirmed that Italy firmly adheres to the official one-China policy. Tajani explained that Italy deeply values the significant influence China wields in massive international affairs and within powerful multilateral bodies like the United Nations. He openly endorsed the various peace proposals and diplomatic initiatives recently put forward by the Chinese head of state to resolve these pressing regional hotspots.
Wrapping up the productive meeting, Tajani confirmed that Italy is more than willing to strengthen its multilateral communication and daily coordination with China. He believes the two countries can work together perfectly to jointly safeguard world peace, global stability, and future economic development. Before ending their long session, the two leaders also took the time to exchange their honest views on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and several other pressing global issues.
