Pop star Dua Lipa just launched a massive legal attack against Samsung. She accuses the giant electronics company of using her face to sell televisions without ever asking for her permission or offering any financial compensation. The entertainment magazine Variety first reported on the lawsuit, which outlines several serious allegations. The legal documents allege that Samsung committed copyright and trademark infringement, as well as unauthorized commercial exploitation of her famous image.

This entire legal battle traces back to a very specific design choice. Last year, Samsung started printing a large image of Lipa’s face directly onto the cardboard packaging for its new line of televisions. The famous English musician only discovered this marketing campaign around June 2025. After seeing her face on the boxes, she repeatedly contacted the company and demanded that Samsung immediately stop using her personal likeness to sell its products.

However, the lawsuit claims that Samsung completely ignored her warnings. Lawyers for the singer described the corporate response as highly dismissive and entirely callous. To make matters worse for the tech giant, retail stores continue to sell the exact products featuring her face to this very day. In the official complaint, Lipa’s legal team states that Samsung has generated massive profits simply by using her famous image on the cardboard.

The lawyers argue that this specific marketing tactic creates a totally false impression for the public. When consumers see a massive global pop star printed on a product box, they naturally assume she officially endorsed the television. Lipa firmly states she never signed any endorsement deal with Samsung. The lawsuit even includes direct quotes from several posts on the social media platform X, where fans said they planned to buy the specific television simply because they saw Lipa on the box.

The legal complaint attacks Samsung for disrespecting the singer’s career. The documents state that the infringing conduct makes a total mockery of the incredibly hard work Lipa put into establishing her successful global brand. The lawyers argue that Samsung effectively deprived the singer of her legal ability to control her public image and to properly monetize her personal assets in the highly competitive advertising market.

The lawsuit does not just focus on the unauthorized use of her face. The legal team added a massive copyright claim regarding the specific photograph Samsung used for the boxes. Lipa actually owns the total legal copyright to that exact picture. A photographer snapped the picture backstage while she performed at the Austin City Limits Festival back in 2024. Because she owns the photo, any company needs a signed legal contract to print it on their merchandise.

Samsung usually pays large sums for celebrity endorsements, making this specific oversight seem very strange. Global tech brands frequently write checks for over $5 million to secure popular musicians for television commercials and billboard campaigns. By simply taking the photo and printing it on the boxes without a contract, Samsung avoided paying those massive endorsement fees, keeping millions of dollars in extra profit for itself.

This lawsuit adds another huge headache to the television manufacturer’s growing list of legal problems. Just last December, Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, officially sued Samsung. Paxton actually sued exactly 5 different major television manufacturers at the same time. The state accused these companies of hiding ad-targeting spyware deep inside the software of their smart televisions to track what everyday families watch in their living rooms.

Reporters immediately reached out to Samsung’s corporate headquarters to request an official comment on the Dua Lipa lawsuit. As of now, the company has refused to answer any questions or issue a public statement. The singer and her legal team now await a judge’s review of the evidence and a decision on exactly how much money Samsung must pay to fix the massive mistake.
