This upcoming ceremony will officially renew a powerful military agreement the two leaders originally signed back in 2021. The updated document heavily strengthens the military bond between the two European nations.
The core of this security pact contains a strict mutual defense clause. If a foreign power attacks one country, the other promises to send immediate military support. Furthermore, the 2021 agreement included a massive financial commitment. Greece officially agreed to purchase at least €3 billion worth of advanced French warships to upgrade its naval fleet. This massive weapons deal directly supports the French defense industry while giving Greece the modern ships it needs to patrol its maritime borders. The Greek government already started receiving some of these expensive vessels to secure the Mediterranean Sea.
