Ukrainian forces destroyed over 33,000 Russian drones in March, setting a brand new monthly record since the full-scale war began in February 2022. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the massive numbers, highlighting how Ukraine uses advanced drone interceptor systems to protect its skies. Ukraine built and tested this technology directly on the battlefield to hold back the much larger Russian army. Now, foreign militaries around the globe want to buy these same defense tools for their own countries.

Nations in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf actively seek to purchase these Ukrainian interceptor drones. As the war involving Iran continues to escalate, these countries desperately need reliable air defense systems. Fedorov explained late Monday that Ukraine continues to scale up its production of interceptor drones to stop Russian aerial attacks. The military also created a brand-new command within the air force specifically to manage and expand these growing drone capabilities.

While successfully defending its own airspace, Ukraine also takes the fight directly into Russian territory. Ukrainian forces launched their own domestically built long-range attack drones and hit a Russian oil refinery at the Black Sea port of Tuapse. This attack marked the 3rd time in less than 2 weeks that Ukraine bombed this specific facility. Local authorities rushed to evacuate nearby residents as a precaution against the massive explosions and fires.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday that the military had completely transformed its offensive power. The country has more than doubled its deep-strike range since the 2022 invasion started. Back then, Ukrainian soldiers could only hit military targets about 630 kilometers away. Today, Ukrainian drone operators successfully strike enemy bases and factories roughly 1,750 kilometers behind Russian lines. This massive range increase allows Ukraine to strike the heart of the Russian war machine.

Hitting these distant targets hurts the Russian economy and military supply chains. Ukraine specifically bombs oil installations that generate the crucial cash Moscow needs to fund the invasion. Recent strikes on the Tuapse refinery destroyed 24 massive oil storage tanks and damaged 4 others. Ukraine also regularly bombs manufacturing plants that build weapons and vehicles for the Russian armed forces. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed on Tuesday that its own air defenses stopped 186 Ukrainian drones overnight across various regions.

European leaders watch Ukraine’s growing military strength with deep respect. Finnish President Alexander Stubb told reporters on Tuesday that the continent might actually need Ukraine more than Ukraine needs Europe. Stubb spoke alongside Estonian President Alar Karis at a joint press conference. He pointed out that Ukraine currently operates the largest, most efficient, and most modern military force in all of Europe. As Russia continues to threaten European countries with drone flights and sabotage, Stubb argues that having a strong Ukraine protects everyone.

Both Stubb and Karis strongly support Ukraine’s membership in the European Union and NATO. Kyiv officially became an EU candidate country in December 2023. While many European leaders broadly back this goal, some politicians hesitate to fast-track the membership process despite urgent pleas from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, Stubb urged European officials to seriously reconsider how much security value Ukraine brings to the table right now.

Stubb firmly believes the momentum in the war now favors Ukraine. He stated that over the past 4 months, Ukrainian forces performed much better on the battlefield than their Russian enemies. The casualty numbers paint a very grim picture for Moscow. Stubb revealed that Russian forces suffer between 30,000 and 35,000 dead and wounded soldiers every single month. These heavy losses make it incredibly difficult for Russia to maintain any real fighting strength.

The Finnish president highlighted a devastating hit ratio on the front lines to prove his point. For every 1 Ukrainian soldier lost, Russia loses 5. Furthermore, Ukraine now fires more missiles and drones into Russian territory than Russia fires back across the border. Stubb noted that the Russian army barely advances and pays a terrible price for every small piece of ground it takes. He estimated that Russia loses roughly 250 dead soldiers for every 1 square kilometer of land they capture.
